Altered Book No. 1, 2024-2025, is a one-of-one, therapeutic art journal that I originally started in 2024 at the start of my master's program in counseling and art therapy. This art intervention became a daily ritual for me to process the weight of my emotions, turmoil, and on a brighter note, aspirations and ideas for my artwork. My first altered book also played a huge role in deepening and transforming my identity as an artist. My first altered book was where Drawing Makes Me Rich came into existence. There is a total of 250 drawings in this altered book, which began in a text called The Scandal of Pleasure. I chose this book due to its perfectly untreated paper, which is adaptable to many art materials. Other themes that are explored in my altered book are grief, loss, motivation, trauma, creativity, expression, and love.
